Celebration of the 10th International Day of Yoga
The Embassy of India in Algeria celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society” on 21 June 2024 at Jardin d’essai du Hamma in Algiers. This is the third time that the Embassy organized the International Day of Yoga at this iconic location in Algeria.
2. The event witnessed participation by more than 300 Yoga enthusiasts of all ages and from different walks of life including Algerian government representatives, diplomatic corps, six Algerian celebrities and media personnel.
3. Deputy Director Mr. Goufi Zinedine from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad of Algeria graced the celebration and participated in the Yoga session. Well known Algerian athlete Ms. Hassiba Boulmerka, specializing in middle-distance races of 800 meters and 1500 meters; Mr. Abderramane Moreceli, former Olympian specialist in middle-distance running; Mr. Khaled Benaissa, Algerian actor and his spouse Ms. Samia Meziane, Algerian actress; Ms. Souha Oulha, Algerian Actress and Hayet Dakou, Social Media influencer also attended the event .
4. A guided Yoga session based on the Common Yoga Protocol was led by three renowned Yoga Instructors in Algeria (Ms. Hayet Hamlaoui, Ms. Souheir Louahala and Ms. Aida Merabet). Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to them.
5. Chargé d’Affaires in his address highlighted the benefits of yoga for an individual and for the society at large.
6. Vegetarian Indian refreshments were served at the end.
